Working Here
What’s the story of your company?
I always considered a person's career as one of the most important things in their life. You spend the majority of your time at work, and so much of your future is tied into your career that people often spend huge amounts of money and time on education to get into certain careers. For such an important undertaking however, there is a lot of inefficiencies and uncertainties around jobs and careers in general. You often hear of students who don't know what to do with their life, or people who spend decades in a job and hate every second of it. I thought that was an important problem to solve, helping people find a great career they would love.
We set out to build a learning and social platform at first, to help people find out what skills are necessary to get into certain jobs, and to build a community to share job experiences. However, testing with the audience revealed that people used our product in a different way, and the bigger desire was to get job opportunities.
Thus we focused on using our technology to actually match users to the right jobs, and cut out a lot of the pain around job-hunting for users, and candidate sourcing and filtering for companies.

What would you say is the best part of working for JobKred?
I think the best thing that people can gain from working with us is the experience of working with the team on this task, and learning from the other team members as well. If you have an interest in helping people, and learning about launching a startup, JobKred would be an ideal place for you.

Do you provide training on the job?
There isn't a formal training programme, but we try to share as much as possible and guide people if necessary. As mentioned in the interns answer thread, I will always be happy to spend extra time to teach staff who are willing to learn, about analytics, marketing, etc.

Do you hire foreigners?
Yes we do, however they do need to be able to get a work permit from Singapore's Ministry of Manpower, thus do a self-check for your eligibility at this link: https://services.mom.gov.sg/sat/satservlet

What are the marketing tools used at JobKred?
Currently the core tools used are simple, quick to implement, and most importantly free!

Google Tag Manager to tag events, Google Analytics for daily stats. Plan to add segments.io and Hubspot in the future.
Communications
Mandrill for automated mails, MailChimp for newsletters, Hoot Suite / Buffer for social media posts. Will look to automate more with tools like intercom.io soon, as well as integrate real-time customer support like Zopim.

Currently using simple HTML-based sharing links, but looking to use sharing plugins like addthis.

What do interns gain out of working at JobKred?
Our team is generally friendly and helpful, so if you want to learn, any of us would be happy to give you a comprehensive education in our personal specialities. In TradeHero, I asked our iOS engineer and CTO to teach me SQL, and they came in to work with me on Saturdays and Sundays just to teach, which I am very grateful for. I improved my HTML by working on weekends with JobKred CTO Steven too. I will do the same with any staff or intern at JobKred.
Other than that, I will write a killer recommendation letter and be available for referrals anytime!

What is JobKred's technology stack?
JobKred is built with Laravel, a PHP MVC framework. We chose PHP as our main application language because it has a plethora of open-source libraries and is well-supported. It's also the language that we know best so as to get the product out there quickest. Other than that, the platform is hosted on AWS with multiple services including EC2 LAMP stack at different regions, Apache (webserver), RDS/MySQL (database), ElasticSearch/Lucene (for search), HTML5/JQuery/Javascript (frontend), Python (Offline data processing).

Why do you want to hire a community manager?
A community manager would be one of the most important roles at JobKred. Engaging the current users, getting their support for our mission, executing initiatives to connect users together, and being active in the larger startup community, is essential in keeping activity and growth levels high.
I'm currently fulfilling the role myself, but I believe finding a great community manager would really supercharge these efforts and get much more results. I will be working in partnership with the community manager to grow and support the community.

What's the background of the founders?
My education background was in science, studied Physics as my major while minoring in mathematics. Programming was part of my serious hobby since university time, it was my everyday toy.
When I was a research assistant in NTU, I have developed many simulations for topics like crowd emergence, pandemic diseases, ecology and swarm intelligence. Some of these favorite subjects indirectly led me to big data, where I get to automate some of the complex number crunching and stealth crawling (for data seeding).
Until I met Gary (a super passionate guy), that we decided to build something of our own, in hope to contribute great value to the society like helping people to have a better career. Then we started building JobKred.

What stage is your startup in now?
I still consider us in the product validation stage, where we are working to achieve product/market fit. As such, we want to remain very agile and move fast in our product development, so that we can move to the right fit as quickly as possible.
