Lay Ping Chua
Mechanical Engineering
School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering
Summary
I started off my career in mechanical RD roles and was in the manufacturing industry for more than ten years. Over those years, when I was involved in designing and developing different products - from consumer products, commercial products to medical products) – I had acquired various design skills and knowledge.
Thus, with my engineering background, I moved on to the education industry to teach so that I can impart what I had learnt to the students. In the process of teaching, I interacted with students and noticed that most students are clueless about what they wanted to do after their graduation. Therefore, I decided to take up the secondment invitation from Ministry of Education (MOE) to be an Education Career Guidance (ECG) Counsellor.
However, I relinquished my role as ECG Counsellor after the secondment and resumed the role of lecturer again; but this time round, with added value as a teaching staff equipped with ECG skillsets. Naturally, I was assigned as one of the members in the ECG Taskforce handling ECG related activities for the School of Engineering in Nanyang Polytechnic.
