Gerry Chng's Skill Profile
Partner @ Ernst Young
When I was working at Ernst Young (Nov 2000 - Present), I demonstrated the Public Speaking skill when I was responsible for sharing our services to our clients. To tackle this challenge, I proactively signed up for an Effective Presentation course, and volunteered to assist my managers with the preparation and delivery of some presentations. As a result, I managed to strengthen my confidence and ability to speak in front of my clients, and this proved to be very important in making your capabilities known to both clients and internal management.

What are some mistakes that you have made in your career? How did you deal with it and what have you learned from them?
Mistakes will always happen throughout the career. I have had multiple such mistakes, and what is important is to fail fast, learn from it, and improve yourself.
In fact, if we stop failing, it would also mean that we have stopped learning and operating without our comfort zone.

If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself? If not, what would you change?
Yes, I would continue to choose this path. The combination of an Engineering background, and opportunity to work with clients on understanding and addressing their challenges opens up the horizon on what is possible.
Retrospectively, I also wish that I had continued with the life-long learning more actively right from the start.
