Summary
I have served as a Chief Financial Officer in a start-up, large size corporate, listed entity as well as co-operatives. It was an exciting 14 years in the role, where I lead and is involved in the finance and reporting, treasury, cash management, risk management, investor relations, corporate finance, strategic initiatives, internal controls and fund raising functions.
In each of these roles, I meet with great leaders with different experiences, visions and capabilities, with team members with great aspirations and potentials and with others who taught me what not to be and not to do.
As a CFO leading a team, I often find myself in the mentoring and coaching roles for my team member. I was constantly looking out for career and developmental opportunities for my team, be it in terms of enhancing their competencies, capabilities or in their thinking and problem solving skills, or a promotion.
Most recently, I decided to leave the corporate role for an equally meaningful role. I started on my journey to be an executive coach. As a alumni of NTU, having graduated with the School of Business and Accountancy back in 1995 (known today as NBS), I have had very little time to participate in Alumni activities due to work and home commitments. As I chanced upon this page for the alumni, now that I have more time on hand, I was pleasantly delighted, to find that there is a possibility for me to contribute a small part of my experience, skills and knowledge to the school and its student.
I would also be happy to apply my experience and skills, if need be, with the institution.

Q&A with Huey Teng Loke
How do I handle set backs and disappointments?
I constantly remind myself, that life is never always smooth sailing. Its through mistakes, disappointments and set back, that we learn what not to do and what can be done better.
One may be affected and rightfully so, there may be regrets, and understandably so; but do not let the regrets linger too long - take down notes and move on - there are many more wins we should be working towards.
Surround ourselves with a few closely knitted friends - be each others listening ears and mentors. We all grow professionally and emotionally through challenges and together!

If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself? If not, what would you change?
I would. Apart from achieving my career aim of being a Chief Financial Officer of a listed entity, I enjoyed thoroughly the process of getting there - the various late nights working on projects and seeing it to fruition; the many discussions and listening in to expert advices and point of views; being guided by excellent leaders of the industry; and most of all, meeting lots of good people and learning from each other, many became life time friends.
