GSK SingaporeI am a Data Science Lead within the Established Pharma Global Commercial, General Medicines at GSK. I provide data analytics and data science support and champion initiatives to uplift Data Literacy and drive data driven culture.
- Led the development of Digital Listening Platform, a one-stop shop PowerBI dashboard which collated data relating to 6 therapeutic areas over 15 markets from digital data sources and applied advanced analytics (e.g. persona predictive model, topic model, sentiment analysis) to summarize the data into insights to aid marketers in global brand strategy planning and operations strategy planning. The project involved working with over 40 stakeholders from commercial, tech, privacy, compliance, legal and external agency to deliver a first-of-its-kind solution in the organization at scale.
- Provided data analytics / data science technical support to business to drive data driven decision making. Areas included market access pricing and gap analysis for product launch strategy, planning of major conference, evaluation of post campaign to ascertain resonance of campaign messaging with target audience, optimize UI/UX of website performance.
- Championed multiple data literacy initiatives such as initiated and started the DataExplorer program which brings greater awareness on what and how to be data literate, organized and hosted Data Conference 2022 and 2023 event at GSK Asia House which garnered more than 100+ participants

- Performed customer journey analysis in the context of omnichannel marketing by visualizing multiple touch points (e.g. sankey diagram plots) and overlaying with customer profile obtained via customer segmentation analysis to identify the type of nudges that are better suited for the different profile of customers. Additionally developed a data driven sales attribution model as an improvement to an existing rule-based model to better reflect the contributions made by each marketing arm in driving sales

What is the best advice you have received in your career thus far?
One of my managers once told me in my first 10 years of my career, I should try out at least 3 different roles preferably in different organizations. This will help me uncover what I like and what I do not like such that in my next 10 years of career, I can specialize and develop in the area which I wish to pursue.

What is your personal goal in your profession?
My aim in my profession is to simplify data science to many who have regarded it as highly complex and hence, fear the applications of it so that we can collectively harness the benefits of it.

What do you do to keep your skills fresh or keep yourself updated in your field?
It is important to continuously read up about the latest developments. You can do so by subscribing to Medium or other data science portal. You can also follow key opinion leaders in this field. There are many conferences every year and you can sign up for them to learn a huge loads of information within a short amount of time. Other avenues include enrolling in courses through Udemy, Coursera etc.

Do I need to have a data science degree to pursue data science?
No. I have come across people who completed their data science training via coursera and excel in their career. What is important is your willingness to learn and constantly upskill.

What do you like most about your work?
What excites you about the field that you are in?
Data Science is a multi-disciplinary field and it is always evolving. The community is huge and is filled with enthusiasts who are eager to learn, share, re-learn and re-share. Its a fun space to be in as you witness the power of incredible minds coming together to solve problems for mankind.

How do you attempt to overcome your lack of knowledge in particular areas?
I am not data science trained from undergraduate but that does not stop me from pursuing data science knowledge as there are multiple resources which one can access easily. I decided to enroll myself in the Master of Science in Business Analytics and concurrently, I took up multiple courses on Udemy to accelerate my learning in e.g. python, sql programming. As long as you are willing to put time to learn, you will be able to acquire those knowledge.

What achievements in your career are you most proud of?
Over the years, i have learned from many colleagues and peers that it is a luxury to be able to do what you like at work. My proudest achievement in my career thus far is to uncover my passion in data science at the early stage and continue to pursue it as my career to help others solve problems.
