Q&A with Meryl Lim
What excites you about the industry you are in?
Being in the sexual wellness industry is something that is traditionally frowned upon and comes with a lot of pre-conceived labels around being promiscuous especially more so for a female like myself starting up in this scene. But lets face it, sex is a core part of our human need so why arent we talking more about it or getting ourselves educated in this aspect? Sexual wellness is part of our overall wellness, yet theres such a big gap in the market in this space. Its about time we revolutionise and modernise this topic to empower people to own their pleasures in life. And this is exactly what excites me - the ability to break societals boundaries, to get people questioning the status quo and inspiring others to be unapologetic and free to express themselves.

What sacrifices have you had to make to succeed in this field, and do you feel the sacrifices were worth it?
Theres definitely been plenty of personal sacrifices made on my end. Firstly, the massive pay cut in salary from a cushy corporate job means changes in personal lifestyle consumption. You can read more about my story on this CNA article here. Secondly, when you run your own business, work really never quite ends regardless of whether you took leave or not. When theres a work crisis to fight, bid adieu to your personal commitments which sometimes makes you a terrible friend and thats part of the sacrifices you will have to make. And for NOW, its worth it for this phase of life Im at.

What are your strongest skills that have contributed to your success in this field?
Determination, resilience and the ability to think outside of the box especially in the industry where i am in where advertising is extremely limited and regulated. Apart from that, having a strong sense of curiosity and willingness to get your hands dirty are all essentials for doing your own start-up.
