Q&A with Mezhgan Qabool
How important are interns or junior level members of staff in a company?
It goes without saying, that behind every great organisation, manager or team there are excellent interns or junior members of the staff that do the heavy lifting to make the day to day tasks, as well as major initiatives, successful and efficient. From my personal experience, interns and junior staff have been instrumental in not only getting things done that need doing, but also bringing fresh ideas and perspective to the topics that can take it to a whole different and better direction.

How do you attempt to overcome your lack of knowledge in particular areas?
I seek help from those that know better than me and are subject matter experts. It is always helpful to do a course, or read on the subject to bring your knowledge up. However, nothing beats sitting down with someone who has better knowledge in the area you lack and learning from them and their experience.

What did you do to make yourself marketable?
I networked extensively and always sought mentors to guide me along the way, both in my professional and personal life.

If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself? If not, what would you change?
Absolutely ! Never have regrets and always strive to become a better version of yourself. If you find new passions or interests, pursue them. But do not regret where your path led you to today.

What are some personal projects or ideas you have worked on or are working on now?
Partnerships with Asia based stock exchanges to create a link between Europe and Asia for index derivatives. Most recent one with the Korea Exchange, KRX, where we worked on implemeting a link model to allow for Korean derivatives to be traded on our stock exchange in core European and US hours

Describe a project or idea (not necessarily your own) that was implemented primarily because of your efforts.
Extended the trading hours of the stock exchange into the Asia time zone, going from 14 to 21 hours trading of derivatives futures and options. As a result our products can now be traded from 8am Singapore rather than previous 2pm.
