Q&A with Mui Pong Goh
What do you do to keep up with the current issues and trends in your field?
I set aside to read daily-- its still too little! Whilst online articles/ journals (e.g. Association of Talent Development, HBR, MIT Sloan Review) are helpful, I still enjoy reading books or longform articles. Podcasts and webinars are also essential means to keep up-to-date.
Ultimately, these are means. What is more important is finding good authors or practitioners and expanding the pool.

What kind of education or training did you find most useful in your field?
The best way to grow is to have mentors who will share their expertise as well as to meet up regularly with other practitioners to exchange ideas.

What excites you about the field that you are in?
Learning and development practitioners are generally curious and helpful. They constantly push to help others gain greater self-awareness and acquire skills to be more effective in their work. This means that I am often forced to self-reflect on my own inner self and consciously build new skills. I am amazed that I am paid to grow!

Is there something you wish you'd known starting out in your field? Or is there something you wish you had done differently starting out?
I wish I knew that things would work out. Switching fields and countries was often stressful, fraught with uncertainties. Yet looking at those transitions now, I remember primarily the joy and adventures of learning new things and meeting new people.
