Summary
Royce joined the finance industry in 2008, after completing his National Service (NS) and while waiting for his placement into National University of Singapore (NUS).
He wanted to be financially independent while pursuing his education as it meant a lot to him to be self-reliant and to have the ability to pay off his study loan. Unlike most of his peers, he didn’t want to give tuition or spent his university days being involved in halls or CCAs. Instead, he wanted to make the most of his undergrad days doing real work.
Unfortunately, from experience, he knew he may not learn any real work skills with internships. Most would give him the standard “office boy” sort of work of filing papers or being an administrative staff. What he wanted was some real work skills and make some real impact both in the workforce and for clients.
That determination and search brought him to the financial industry where he got to do real client planning under the guidance of his mentors. It was a great opportunity for him then as he could take his undergraduate days to explore and have ample time to decide on his future career paths.
Within 2 years from his graduation, he got promoted to a management position, while striking off many items on his personal bucket list.
Yet over and beyond his personal achievements, he founded Rainmakers Guild with the intention to help undergraduates achieve their personal financial goals. Just as he was able to achieve many of them while being an undergrad, he hopes to inspire others like him.
That’s why at Rainmakers Guild, there is a strong belief in continuous learning as it is a part of professionalism to continuously upgrade yourself to be a better individual so that you can serve your clients better.
For that reason, Royce has attained his Chartered Financial Consultant certification, a qualification he encourages his team to pursue to help them serve their customers better. Royce is also a Chartered Insurance Agency Manager and a certified Master NLP Practitioner, among his other qualifications.

Q&A with Royce Goh
How would you describe your career in one sentence?
Entrepreneurship is being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, as long as you have tenacity and determination, and you continue to pick yourself up after every single fall.

What do you do to keep your skills fresh or keep yourself updated in your field?
I make it a point to upgrade myself every year, be it in the areas of soft or hard skills. As part my own business planning, personal development is an area that I plan for at the start of the year, identifying a new skillset that I want to acquire, or to further improve on an existing one. I also plan a budget for upgrading, and it is my firm belief that the best form of investment, is investment in yourself.

Have you considered going into other fields? What other fields do you think you are well-suited for and why?
I have always wanted to enter the banking industry, however, back then as a young undergraduate, I was never sure what banking entails as there are just too many different roles and functions in banking. Apart from that, many of my peers in my degree course ended up as an actuary, which was something I have considered as well due to my degree relevance.
I didnt really know what I wanted, but at least I knew what I didnt want, which is to be desk bounded as my full time career. Hence that became a basis for me to decide what I wanted to do.
