Summary
I am an experienced educator with over 10 years of teaching and coordinating experience in primary and tertiary institutions. I volunteer with economic empowerment and mental wellness organisations like DOT and The Chatty Caterpillar. I am linked to NTU/NIE through my PGDE (Pri), Adv Dip in Pri Music Ed and MEd (English Literature) journeys.
I started my teaching journey at 19 as a Design Technology relief teacher to Sec 1 students. Since then, I’ve thrived in my discomfort zone and learned voraciously from my students and peers.
I’m skilled in curriculum development in diverse subjects, from music and literary appreciation to narrative thinking and active effective citizenry. I enjoy planning and creating curricula grounded in experiential learning, community building, reflection and timeless values.
I love curating and sharing resources with people; ideating and creating meaningful content give me great joy. I enjoy reading, learning, growing, walking and deep conversations.

Q&A with Yi Ling Ong
What excites you about the field that you are in?
Non-stop learning and growing, which is aligned with my top VIA character strength (love of learning). Also, it is very meaningful to connect with individuals and guide them to see their strengths, as well as what good they are capable of.

If you were a college student again, what would you do differently to prepare you for your field?
I would go on internships in different industries (or in industries that I am interested in), instead of sticking to my field. Also, I would network more widely and start volunteering at an earlier age. On top of my student exchange programme, I would apply for overseas work attachments too, to gain as much exposure as possible. More importantly, I would have researched more deeply on career opportunities for a graduate in my field of study, to ensure greater employability and stackability of my skill-sets.
