Q&A with You Yi Ng
What is the most significant skill set that can be transferable across industry and is important for own career growth?
Skill to Sell anything
From the moment you step out from school, the very first thing that you will do is to sell your abilities to your potential employers. Whether you like it or not, that will be the first skill that you will use, thus it is important that you start to work on selling something whether you are an introvert or an extrovert.
Once your get your first sales away by getting into a job, you will continue to get sales task regardless of what you do. i will pick a R&D engineer jobs as an example because most people will perceive that this job can hide inside your own lab and design something interesting without interacting with anyone. It is good to know in reality, if the most amazing invention is something that a buyer cannot understand, the buyer will not buy and your invention is as good as trash. Selling Skills become the most important linking tools between your invention to your buyers.
Another example is to convince your boss to increase your pay when you think you are due. No boss will increase your pay just by doing your job. You will need to understand what your boss want and start working on those you think that he will appreciate. this is also call selling. if you cannot sell your talent to your boss, you can only blame yourself. You can change your boss nonetheless, but if you cannot even your previous boss, why do you think you can convince your next boss.
So Guys and Gals, please start working the ability to sell anything to anyone... =)
