Summary
Benn started in MINDEF as an Ordnance Trainer specialized in Automotive Technology and his responsibilities included training military leaders and instructors during his tenure. Upon leaving the civil service, he transitioned into the Marine Industry as a Quality Assurance Engineer, gaining depth in both quality assurance and shipbuilding processes through extensive collaborations with both local and overseas partners in key new construction and shipbuilding projects.
After being certified as a CWI with The American Welding Society, he continued to apply his acquired transferable skills in the Oil and Gas sectors and progressed to attain accreditation as a Lead Auditor for the Integrated Management Systems of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & OSHAS 18001.
His following tenure with a European based marine equipment manufacturer for the global marine and offshore segments would see Benn continue his career progression into Management, developing his expertise in 6-Sigma Lean Manufacturing methodology to achieve Operational Excellence for their Production facilities. Benn continued his leadership responsibilities as the Group Manager after the acquisition by a US MNC and continued to engage his direct reports in their career development through capability building and performance management initiatives by coaching and mentoring them in succession planning cycles as part of his duties.
Prior joining NTU as a career coach, Benn held leadership roles in a local listed MNC for public land transport and was accountable to ensure the profitability of the business units listed under his area of responsibilities.
Benn is a certified Job Career Transition & Development Coach who graduated from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia with a Bachelor of Business, Management and attained the Certificate of Academic Excellence for Leadership & Management. He also holds a Diploma in Marine Engineering and a National Trade Certificate Level II in Automotive Technology among his academic qualifications.
