Q&A with Junru Li
How do you attempt to overcome your lack of knowledge in particular areas?
First, read up on several 101 documents and build the basic structure of the knowledge you need in the area. Second, for specific sub-areas, deep-dive with more detailed reading - start with basic theory, then read up latest news / developments. Meanwhile, it is always useful to ask a friend of yours who are expert in the area talk you through once - it can help to connect the dots together.

How would you describe your career in one sentence?
What area are you most interested in regarding your current career?
I am most interested in transformation and consumer-focused projects. To elaborate, in transformation projects, you have opportunities to stay longer and see tangible impact of your work on the organization - be it the more agile ways of working or the more efficient operations. In consumer-oriented projects, you conduct product or marketing experiments and observe interesting consumer behaviors, then you adjust products / services and the marketing / branding based on customer insights to boost sales, retain customers or charge higher premium.

What sacrifices have you had to make to succeed in this field, and do you feel the sacrifices were worth it?
Absolutely no personal life during weekdays, occasionally late night, high intensity every day - but the sacrifices were worth it as the challenges that we need to solve in our daily work were interesting and sometimes unprecedented. Putting in efforts and time to solve these problems will really bring you ultimate satisfaction and tremendous personal growth.
