Summary
I am passionate about leveraging technology to develop solutions that help people and empower businesses. My innate curiosity and strong emphasis on life-long learning drive me to strive for academic excellence and pursue numerous learning opportunities concurrently with my undergraduate studies. On top of that, acquiring as much experience as possible is a pivotal step in my life. As such, I have interned at Pfizer and KPMG to obtain experience working in the industry and assumed committee positions in various clubs such as NTU Piano Ensemble, Toastmasters Club Serikat, Indonesian Cultural Night, NTUSU Welfare Initiatives Committee, and NTU Earthlink during my study at NTU. Through these experiences, I sought to develop my soft skills to perform excellently with other people.
I wholeheartedly believe that giving back to the community is essential. As such, I have sought volunteering opportunities, the most recent being an English Teacher in New Life Community Services, where I teach conversational-level English to Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore. In addition, I have participated as a teacher in an initiative called Project Transcend Across Boundaries by NTU SCBEs Overseas Community Engagement Project (OCEP). Through these voluntary activities, I can create an impact by cultivating essential skills in others and broadening my experience in other sectors.

Q&A with Nathan Lawira
What excites you about the industry you are in?
As someone who lives with a chronic medical condition, I can understand how difficult it is to live with it. This is my main reason and what excites me the most about working in the industry that I am currently in. Although I am not directly involved in creating active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and medicines, I can feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment as I support the infrastructure of the production lines automation systems. Through my role, I am hoping to ensure a robust, effective, and efficient automation system that not only benefits the company but also boost API productions with higher quality to help people who needs them.

What would you bring to a team if you join them?
Aside from my past experiences and skills, I believe my proactiveness and determination are the most important things I bring to a team. My proactiveness stems from my passion for leveraging my skills and rising technology to devise solutions that help people and empower businesses. During my Pfizer internship, I initiated two big projects leveraging programming that assisted my manager and colleagues in significantly reducing the time consumption of their routine tasks by over 95%. In addition, my deep interest in solving problems fostered my strong resilience and determination to face challenges in my work. I was responsible for designing a heat exchanger network in my Final Year Design Project (FYDP), which was complicated due to numerous hot and cold streams and strict design guidelines. Although I initially failed to meet the minimum energy requirements (MER), I was determined to do so, even working very late at night for a week. My resilience paid off as I finally designed a network that met the MER, successfully reducing my projects utility costs from heat exchangers by over 92%. These experiences demonstrated not only my technical capabilities but also my proactiveness to help people and unwavering resilience in solving challenges.
