Q&A with Yuyan Shi
What are your interests and in what way does this career satisfy your interests?
I am interested in mechanical design and software. Robotics is great because it often requires one to be multi-disciplinary and I feel that I am not ready (and might never be ready) to choose a single field to focus on yet.

What kind of education or training did you find most useful in your field?
Hands-on experience is really important. It is good to show the recruiters that you have done actual engineering work, perhaps in your FYP, internship or as a hobby. Show that you know your stuff with actual projects and you will really stand out from your peers!

If you were a college student again, what would you do differently to prepare you for your field?
I would have taken some software courses when I was on exchange. When I started working, I had to embark on some software related tasks, knowing some of the basics beforehand would definitely have been helpful!
